The Pot Calling the Kettle Black

The above comic, in which an overweight man is commenting on the excess weight of an acquaintance, provides us with an example of
the pot calling the kettle black. This English idiom expresses the idea that people should not criticize others for faults or imperfections that they have themselves. For example:

Leona is a non-stop talker. She shouldn’t criticize Fred for dominating the conversation. Talk about
the pot calling the kettle black!

There are
two explanations as to where the English idiom the pot calling the kettle black originally stems from. Both of them, however, go back to the fact that pots and kettles have a common color - black.
