Not All It's Cracked Up to Be

Not be all its cracked up to be

Being a princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
- Princess Diana

If something isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, it is not as good as people say it is. Most people think that being a princess would be wonderful, but, in the quote above, Princess Diana said that it isn’t as wonderful as people think. Often, things are not all they’re cracked up to be. For some examples, look at these recent article or blog post titles:

Bill Gates -- being a billionaire isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
- blogs.computerworld.com, 28 October 2011, Preston Gralla
Working from home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
-theglobeandmail.com, 18 January 2012, Thomas Klaasen
Being CEO Not All It’s Cracked Up to Be
-businessnewsdaily.com, 12 January 2012, David Mielach

These titles tell us that being a billionaire, working at home and being the boss of a company are not as good as people think, i.e.
they are not all they’re cracked up to be. That’s difficult to imagine, isn’t it? Why do you think that these things aren’t all they’re cracked up to be?
